Hotel and tourism school opens in Makkah

The Niagara College for Tourism and Hospitality has opened in the province of Makkah, with authorities hoping will contribute to the development of national tourism manpower.

His Royal Highness Prince Mesh’al bin Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of Makkah, and His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, President of Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities, declared the college open on January 15.

Located in Taif, the Niagara College for Tourism and Hospitality is an affiliate of Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC), the government’s training institute.

In a statement following the opening ceremony, HRH president of SCTA said: "Employment of college students after their graduation is one of our major objectives, for which the officials of SCTA and TVTC and the colleges of tourism hospitality are working together.

He added that these efforts would soon be aided by “tourism finance regulation” to encourage tourism investment and help establish strong tourism projects and investments to create jobs for young Saudis.

"This year will be exceptional in regard to the national tourism progress through the important and historic resolutions that were issued by the government for the interest and support of the national tourism which are crowned by the approval of King Abdullah Project for the Caring of Kingdom's Cultural Heritage, in addition to the Cabinet’s historic resolution regarding providing the financial and administrative support to SCTA to enable it to carry out its mandate,” he said.

HRH President of SCTA also commended the cooperation between SCTA and TVTC, which has now resulted in the establishment of five colleges of tourism and hospitality in Riyadh, Al Madina, Al Taif, Al Ahsa, and Najran.
