Caterer Middle East launches Head Chef Survey 2015

Devina Divecha, April 27th, 2015

The sixth Head Chef Survey has been launched by Caterer Middle East, and is an annual comprehensive study aimed at top culinary professionals across the Middle East.

Last year's Caterer Middle East Head Chef Survey had responses from 134 Middle-East-based professional chefs and dealt with some of the most pressing issues they faced, as well as the general state of the industry in the region.

“We saw some interesting results in the Head Chef Survey 2014,” said ITP Business Hospitality Group senior editor Devina Divecha.

The average spend slowly moved up in 2014. In 2013's results, 4.5% of chefs surveyed said average spend per head was above US $1000; it inched up to 5.22% last year. In addition, the most common average spend-per-head according to the surveyed chefs was $40-60, moving up from $20-40 the previous year.

Chefs also dealt with the issue of procurement, with some talking about the importance of the relationship between different departments. In addition, increased levels of competition were definitely on top of the chefs' minds last year, one trend that will perhaps also reflect this year.

The survey is open to chefs in both independent and hotel-based restaurants across the Middle East, and will draw comparisons from previous years to establish repeat trends or new developments.

All answers are confidential and none of the information provided will be divulged elsewhere. To participate, visit www.surveymonkey.com/s/HeadChef2015. The deadline for responses is July 15, 2015, and the results will be published in the September 2015 issue of the magazine.
