Shaji Thomas has been appointed as area director of sales & marketing – Hyatt Hotels Dubai.
Thomas will take over the role from May 1, 2015, and will manage the Dubai sales and marketing portfolio for the group, including brands such as Grand Hyatt, Hyatt Regency, Park Hyatt, and Hyatt Place.
Prior to his new role, Thomas was director of sales and marketing for Grand Hyatt Mumbai and area director of sales and marketing for Mumbai, Pune and Goa, with six properties under his remit.
He joined the hospitality industry in 2006 as director of sales Crowne Plaza Salalah, Oman, and was then area director of sales – the Northern Gulf region based out of Kuwait for two years.
Thomas has previously worked with companies like CEAT and Mercedes-Benz India in territory sales profiles; positions where he developed a solid foundation before moving on to heading business development at ISMAT (an industrial component-manufacturing unit, catering to the automotive and allied industries in India and abroad) and managing the marketing division at MARK, a destination management company based in Muscat, Oman.
