Orwell International and TSSC Dubai have introduced PEL waste reduction equipment to the UAE, marking a world-first in glass bottle sustainable closed-loop recycling.
The value of the deal is estimated at US $3.3 million.
Designed and manufactured in Ireland, the PEL Baby and Mega patented range of glass bottle crushers transform waste glass bottles into cullets. The glass cullets are used in the manufacture of new bottles by Frigoglass — based in Jebel Ali, a partner in the glass bottle closed-loop programme.
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton TD said: “I am delighted to welcome this exciting announcement from Orwell International in conjunction with TSSC Dubai.”
At Gulfood 2014, the Baby Jaws Under-Counter Glass Bottle Crusher, the only unit of its kind in the world, won “The Best New Catering Equipment Innovation Award”.
Orwell International managing director Steve Lynch said: “The Baby and Mega Jaws glass bottle crushers, invented and manufactured in Ireland, generate significant immediate self-financing cost benefits to the hospitality industry introducing increased staff efficiencies and substantial waste disposal cost savings.
“By transforming waste glass bottles into a valuable commodity to be used in the manufacture of new glass bottles, it introduces immediate sustainable environmental benefits, reducing energy costs by 40%, water pollution by 50%, and accumulative greenhouse gases are reduced by 41%. There is nothing else like it anywhere in the world.’’
Brendan Flood, international sales & partnering manager, Enterprise Ireland said: “Enterprise Ireland is committed to growing Irish exports to the Gulf to €6bn [US $6.6bn] by 2020.”
He added: “It is through partnerships between Orwell International and TSSC Dubai that this target will be achieved.”
