Dubai Opera expected to boost hotel occupancy

“The scheduled completion for Dubai Opera is March 2016 with concrete, steel structure, block work, electromechanical and finishing works are in progress,” Emaar Properties, Dubai’s largest developer, said in the latest project update.

The Dubai Opera will be as iconic in appearance as the world-famous Sydney Opera House, the developer has earlier said. Atkins is the architect while Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) is the main contractor for the project.

The Dubai Opera House is being built as part of plans for The Opera District in Downtown Dubai, and will be used for opera, theatre, concerts, art exhibitions, orchestra, film, sports events and seasonal programmes. The opera is expected to attract several tourists from the GCC and neighbouring countries, which is expected to boost the hotel occupancy in surrounding Downtown hotels.

It is designed to resemble a dhow, a traditional sailing vessel, in which the 'bow' of the structure will house the opera's mainstage, orchestra and seating, while the elongated 'hull' will have waiting areas, taxi drop-off areas, and parking.
