Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, Coffee Planet has signed on as a sponsor of the Hotelier Middle East Procurement Summit, while asserting different ways in which the company manages the supply chain competitively.

Coffee Planet managing director Robert Jones told Hotelier Middle East: "Exceptional industry events, such as the Hotelier Middle East: Procurement Summit is an outstanding platform to discuss best practices in foodservice and drive innovative coffee solutions for the ever growing hospitality industry, here in the Middle East."

He continued: "At Coffee Planet, we provide extensive solutions to the foodservice industry including hotels, offices, restaurants, catering companies, airlines and much more. We work to provide the right combination of market leading equipment and the freshest, locally roasted premium coffee, to enable us to serve the perfect solution every time, to exceed our customer’s expectations and to fulfil a niche in the market for diverse coffee needs."

He said that as decision makers for a hotel’s purchasing practices, procurement managers have to constantly maintain a delicate balance between negotiating the lowest price for products with various suppliers, while maintaining the high quality standards customers expect.

"As such, differentiation is key by working with home-grown and local brands to create a high-quality, authentic experience which stands out from the crowd and gives quality assurance," explained Jones.

"Our UTZ certification combined with the fact that we source our coffee directly from the best coffee producing regions and roast it locally at our roastery in Jebel Ali (therefore it is always fresh and so tastes much better), ensures we manage the full supply chain to avoid added costs creeping in along the way, so we can offer our customers a competitive price."

In the next few months, Jones is looking forward to working closely with existing and new hotel partners to enhance their service and quality portfolio.

In 2015, its tenth anniversary, Coffee Planet has had an impressive year - it began the year with the launch of its single serve foodservice capsule range, compatible with Nespresso machines, which now provides both the foodservice industry and offices a consistent, efficient and speedy solution to freshly roasted coffee. "Available in four distinct taste profiles and roast strengths crafted by our expert Roastmaster, each capsule caters to a host of consumer palates," Jones added.

As part of its continued efforts to provide complete coffee solutions, the company offers an extensive range of machines; new to the product line includes the VA388 Victoria Arduino Black Eagle espresso machine.

Jones said the firm plans to continue its expansion and new projects. "Our plans continue to focus on maintaining our passion and precision for coffee, signified by the appointment of our new Q graded roastmaster, while increasing our presence in the market through more franchise and brand export opportunities around the globe, enhancing UAE export.

"Our roastery has also just undergone an expansion to double in size allowing us to roast an outstanding 70-100 tonnes of coffee per month, to cater to our growth as we expand regionally as well as globalising our local brand."

The recent expansion features a new production line, which produces 340 Nespresso compatible capsules a minute. Producing capsules in-house allows Coffee Planet to manage the full supply chain from crop to capsule and the ability to enhance the existing range to create a consistent coffee portfolio.

Other roastery additions include a pod machine, which produces 70 pods per minute and approximately 10 million pods a year.

He added: "Those companies and spaces that explore with alternate brewing methods such as the Chemex and cold drip coffee makers, can experiment with our new single origins including a red honey processed Colombia Finca La Meseta, a Kenyan Nayeri-Kirinyaga with a pineapple punch and a medium bodied Nicaragua Santa Maria De Loudes."

With a decade's experience of the market, Jones said he expects to see quality and service at the forefront of discussion at the Hotelier Middle East Procurement Summit, in light of the challenges facing the procurement industry where cost controls are paramount.
