Market by Jean-Georges, located within W Doha Hotel & Residences completed a refurbishment after six years of operation.
United Design Partnership, a UK-based design company, which has worked on more than 200 hotels, spas, residences, bars and restaurants in London, Europe, US, Asia and the Middle East, was commissioned to carry out the project.
According to United Design Partnership’s design director Danielle Duggleby, the design brief supplied by the hotel asked for the restaurant to retain its identity and its original concept of ‘international cuisine meets local Arab flavours’.
The colours for the redesigned restaurant remain warm and vibrant. New Calcutta marble steps and worktops offer a polished and refined image consistent with the brand and its culinary offerings, whilst oak and ribbed timber panelling is meant to showcase a rich and rustic side to the restaurant. Additionally, using the latest techniques, antique bronze metalwork has also been incorporated into the interiors.
The team also drew inspiration from W Doha itself, which is known for using new materials and having a vibrant feel that is different from others in the hospitality industry.
Commenting on the design highlights, Duggleby says: “As you walk in, you are greeted by the vibrant glass back bar and the copper greeter station, you move through the restaurant to see beautiful art work rested on an antique mirror surrounded by rich ribbed timber. Each shelf has something unique, specially selected for the restaurant.”
It was also important for the restaurant to still match the customers it wanted to attract. Duggleby is confident this was achieved by the design team.
She explains: “Market by Jean-Georges’ style is about feeling comfortable when dining throughout the day. The design is versatile. It has enough freshness for the mornings and enough warmth and energy to transcend through to evenings.”
