PETA criticises new Atlantis underwater nightclub

Arabian Business staff writer, November 5th, 2015

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has criticised a new underwater nightclub at the Atlantis hotel in Dubai, reported sister title Arabian Business.

Deep Under is a monthly clubbing concept that launched at Atlantis the Palm on October 22. Once a month, the aquarium will be converted into a nightclub that can hold 450 with a bar, DJ booth and dance floor.

The attendees will be surrounded by the 65,000 species of stingrays, sharks and more.

In a statement to Arabian Business, a PETA spokesperson said: “Facilities such as this one are likely to have a detrimental impact on the animals housed there."

In this statement, the spokesperson said that the animals can become "extremely agitated" and can even attack one another in frustration.

Atlantis Hotel has declined to comment.
