A ban on alcohol and live entertainment in three-star hotels in Bahrain which was imposed last year could be lifted, according to a senior minister.
Zayed Al Zayani, Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister, was quoted by Gulf Daily News as saying that he was open to the idea of lifting the ban, which came into effect in July 2014.
A similar ban on alcohol in one- and two-star hotels in Bahrain was introduced in 2009.
Last year's ban was imposed amid claims of “immoral activities” as well as criticism of substandard facilities and owners allegedly ignoring licensing regulations, the paper reported.

“About three star hotels, live bands and liquor licences, we are all for reviving tourism, and we want to improve their earning potential,” said Al Zayani in comments published by GDN.
“As long as it is clean and is done in the proper way. However, no decision has been taken yet and everything is up for discussion – we are not saying no and not saying yes.”
The majority of the three-star hotels affected by the ban are located in Manama.
