Kempinski Hotel Ajman hosts Kite Festival

Sarah Jacotine, January 6th, 2016

Bukhara, the signature Indian restaurant at Kempinski Hotel Ajman is holding the second annual Ajman Kite Festival on January 15.

Organised in co-operation with Tamquest Entertainment MFZE and Channel 4, the event will demonstrate Sankranti kite-flying traditions, taking place on the 450-metre long beach of the hotel.

Bukhara will provide a buffet of Indian food at the beach along with entertainment, complemented by Kempinski Hotel Ajman’s resident DJ Alina, and a professional kite-flying team from India will demonstrate flying colourful kites of all sizes.

At its roots, the Makara Sankranti is a harvest festival held annually on January 14 to celebrate the arrival of spring.

The Hindu tradition of kite-flying on this day is popular in India, Nepal and South Asia where it has a historical and religious significance and honours the Sun God, who is regarded as the symbol of divinity and wisdom.

The colourful offering to the sun in the form of kites is a way of reaching out to and celebrating the Sun God.
