New Dubai eatery leads diners to the light side

Skye & Walker, a new restaurant offering vegan, raw and gluten free dishes, has opened at the Marriott Executive Apartments Dubai Creek in Deira.

Dishes include slow roasted beet salad, quinoa and white bean pita pockets, and (not so vegan) organic beef burgers, plus desserts such as matcha chia pudding and raw carrot cake. 

“Travellers and Dubai residents alike are very health conscious and want to continue their balanced diet whether staying in hotels on vacation or on business trips or just eating out with family and friends. We are excited to now offer tasty and healthy options now on this side of the Creek in Dubai,” said Hossein Garan, general manager of the Marriott Executive Apartments Dubai Creek.

The venue was completely refurbished prior to opening and the sustainable concept relating to its food was incorporated into the building materials, furniture and operation, the hotel said in a statement.

Existing granite countertops were crushed and re-used within the new concrete floor.

The décor also showcases elements made from natural, recycled and reclaimed materials, including reclaimed solid scaffold planks used as hanging teardrop features, display units and furniture pieces.

Colette van Jaarsveld, managing partner at Arcology International, which designed the eatery, commented: “When we dig deep down to the core and compare values, visions and needs, we are all the same and it is this very same spirit of 'inclusion' that we wanted to embody in Skye & Walker.

"The feeling that this is your space as much as it is mine, the feeling of belonging, the feeling of coming 'home'.”
