Under the theme ‘Travel Across Time’ the Sharjah Light Festival 2016 is set host over 23 visual art shows highlighting the emirates most iconic buildings and landmarks.

Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) says the sixth Sharjah Light Festival will be held from February 4 to 13, highlighting landmark buildings and monuments across multiple locations in the emirate.

The festival will use three-dimensional lighting techniques to take visitors on a visual journey of landmark buildings, contributing to the development of SCTDA’s plans to improve the performance of emirate’s tourism sector.

Speaking to Hotelier Middle East, H.E. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa said; “The idea behind the Sharjah Light Festival is to highlight our culture and iconic buildings for the enjoyment of visitors and residents here in Sharjah.”

“I think this festival will appeal to everyone who visits Sharjah, these projections on our iconic buildings are for everyone to enjoy – and there is no cost either,  everyone is free to visit the sites and enjoy the festival.”

H.E. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa also commented on the transport links connecting to the various sites; “This year we have organised two transportation routes and provided two buses, this will allow visitors to see many sites around the city much more easily.”

“This festival is a big part of our 2021 vision to attract 10 million visitors to Sharjah,” H.E. Khalid Jasim Al Midfa added.

“When we launched this vision last year we had 5.4 million visitors, so it is challenging to double this figure in 5 years, but I am sure we can achieve this goal and reinforce the position of Sharjah on the world tourism map.”

Sharjah Light Festival 2016 has expanded its reach to new locations to enable all residents and visitors to enjoy the shows featured in the festival.
