A chef has been put on trial for assaulting a waiter working at the same restaurant in Dubai.

According to a report by 7 Days UAE, the 23 year old Lebanese chef attacked the Egyptian waiter, by biting the waiter’s ear and punching him in the face several times.

The assault is said to have occurred after the waiter insulted a third colleague at the restaurant, a Filipina, which the report said was the chef’s girlfriend. The Filipina told the chef that the waiter had made insulting comments to her in a lift. Reportedly the second time the waiter had hassled the woman, following an incident in July 2015.

After hearing about the incident directly from the Filipina, the chef is said to have gone to the waiter’s room in accommodation in Bur Dubai at 1.30am, when the assault took place.

The waiter’s ear was not removed, but some disability was suffered as a result of the incident.

The chef is on trial for assault and admitted to the charge. The chef told Judge Fahad Al Shamsi that the men had agreed on compensation, the amount, which the chef said he didn’t have yet, was not mentioned in court.

The case was adjourned by the judge to give the defendant time to resolve the issue and allowed him to remain free on bail.
