Dubai International Airport has retained its reputation as the world’s busiest hub for air travel air, reported ETN.
Dubai’s oldest airport processed over 78 million international passengers during the last year.
During 2015, a total of 78,014,838 passengers passed through the airport. This figure marks a 10.7% increase on the numbers for 2014. During 2014, the airport welcomed 70,473,893 passengers.
The closest rival for Dubai International, in terms of passenger numbers, is London Heathrow Airport, which processed 69.8 million international passengers during 2015, and a total of 74,959,000 passengers including domestic travellers.
Dubai Airports chief executive Paul Griffiths has referred to the figures for 2015 as “another banner year” for Dubai International.
The airports Concourse D extension to Terminal 1 (costing an estimated $1.2 billion) is expected to open in Q1 of 2016.
