TCL offers new sustainable chemical range

Nikhil Pereira, February 25th, 2016

Egypt-founded Technical Chemical Laboratories (TCL) has launched a new range of products that use citrus oil as the base.

“We are focussing on producing environmentally-friendly cleaning products. The new range is based on citro-systems (citrus oil), this makes it non-toxic and it does not affect the health. This means that if a portion of it is accidentally sprayed on food surfaces, it is not harmful,” said Galal Ghaly, general manager, TCL.

The company was founded in 1976 in Egypt, and opened its Dubai offices a decade ago under the leadership of Ghaly, who represents the third generation of the family business.

The company employs 4600 staff in Egypt, which includes the R&D team. “We also have an office in Mumbai and St. Petersburg,” he added.

“We are a chemical manufacturer and supplier in the F&B industry. Our products are also used in healthcare, housekeeping and laundry departments.”

“We supply to around 750 hotels, restaurants and healthcare providers and have a presence in 40 countries. We are expanding in new markets: Russia, India, Thailand and Australia.”

Ghaly said the company’s R&D arm in Russia is working on an exciting new product. “Our R&D centre in St. Petersburg is working on a hand sanitiser which can last for up to eight hours. This is made possible by the sanitiser forming a thin and invisible layer on the hand. Currently, our researchers have been successful in developing a potion that has anti-bacterial qualities for up to two hours.”

Ghaly is determined in ensuring that the chemical products his company produces do not harm the environment. “We focus on providing chemicals that do not cause harm to water (when it mixes while cleaning and washing). We provide super-concentrate chemicals which we dilute with a big ratio, which results in saving a lot of time in the back of house operations."
