Sarah Jacotine, February 29th, 2016

Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre (JRCC), Sharjah, has announced  that having entered 13 chefs into the Emirates Culinary Guild Salon Culinaire competition at this year’s Gulfood 2016, seven emerged victorious – with two receiving gold medal awards.

The event took place as part of Gulfood 2016, the region’s largest F&B and hospitality exhibition.

Salon Culinaire, a series of practical and display-based cooking competitions and banqueting showpieces open to professional chefs, cooks and bakers, divides competitions into individual and team-based events. More than 1,300 chefs from around the world took part at this year’s event, held between February 21 and 25.

Commenting on JRCC’s success, Hanan Al Mahmoud, director of JRCC, said: “Under the direction of JRCC’s executive chef Rami Al Jebraiel, we are extremely proud that our culinary team’s expertise has once more been recognised with many awards.

"The achievement is appreciated more so due to our chefs being kept busy with our own events and exhibitions running concurrently at JRCC.

“We feel that by participating in the Emirates Culinary Guild Salon Culinaire we further strengthen the JRCC brand and our reputation in this field, while also allowing our chefs to network with many other likeminded professionals from across the globe.”

Commenting on the level of competition at ECGSC 2016, Al Jebraiel, added: “The panel of 30 judges really raised the standard for entries this year by demanding more from the competitors, so to be able to walk away with a total of seven awards – and two gold medals, in particular – it provides us with immense pride and satisfaction.”

JRCC’s six other chefs obtained awards of merit for their entries.
