Sheraton Dubai, Mall of the Emirates Hotel has achieved several green savings as a result of new sustainable practices implemented at the hotel over the last year.
Savings at the Dubai hotel have included 5% reduction in electricity consumption, 17.5% reduction in water consumption and 50% reduction in excess waste.
Under the Make A Green Choice (MAGC) initiative, guests at the hotel are invited to forego certain housekeeping services in a bid to save energy, which includes consumption of water, electricity, natural gas and chemicals.
In turn, environmentally responsible guests are rewarded by the hotel with points or vouchers to use at participating outlets in other Starwood properties.
Other green initiatives at Sheraton Dubai, Mall of the Emirates Hotel have included beach clean-up days (pictured), as well as use of organic, locally sourced and sustainable ingredients in restaurants, banquets, catering, and in-room dining. This includes the use of sustainable local seafood choices.
This month, the hotel will host an exhibition and conference on sustainability, where participating speakers will share ideas on energy saving measures.
Commenting on the sustainable practice at the property, Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates Hotel GM Paul Dunphy said: “Green practices are of the utmost importance and we have a corporate responsibility to protect the environment.
“Having founded and led a number of projects on the environmental committee in London, I am now working with the Sheraton associate led Green Council, to ensure our ongoing commitment to environmental practices. Our energy saving measures have been a great success and we aim to continue these efforts.”
