Starbucks has taken inspiration from employee suggestions at US stores to reduce the number of meals thrown away each day.

According to a report by Eater, the US coffee company plans to donate food that has not been sold at Starbucks branches in the US to dedicated food banks that can distribute the food to those in need.

Stabucks already donates unsold pastries from US stores, but will now also donate all unsold perishable food items, the Eater report stated.

The idea came directly from store employees in the US who had reported they felt bad throwing away unsold food at the end of each day. Satrbucks has estimated that the onated food will provide 5 million meals by the end of the year.
