Budget hospitality brand ibis Styles has achieved 70% occupancy within the first year of opening its Jumeirah Dubai property, said ibis Styles Jumeirah hotel manager Muhammad Mujtaba Haider in an interview with Hotelier Middle East.

“We have 191 keys, three restaurants, a spa and meeting rooms; our concept is to be a funky brand but simple one,” said Haider.

“Our room size in unlike other ibis mid-market brands, our rooms range from 28m2 to 60m2 this is much bigger than the standard mid-market expectations,” he added.

“Our 70% occupancy rates are the result of attracting a wide range of source markets, including Germany, France, USA, Australia, New Zealand, India and Iran. We see a good nationality mix in our source markets, though we have tapped the GCC segment very aggressively.”

“We have 97 staff members at Ibis Styles Jumeirah, I believe multitasking is key in the mid-market, which is why we removed the HR department and launched a Talent and Culture department to take care of a wider range of back-of-house responsibilities, this has resulted in just 3% staff turnover.”

Ibis Styles is the brand of economy hotels under the R Hotels hospitality management division offering ‘simplicity, comfort, quality and conviviality’.

At the end of December 2015 the ibis network comprised of 277 hotels in 24 countries.
