Dusit Thani Dubai, in partnership with Canadian University Dubai (CUD), are conducting a design competition for students from the school of architecture and interior design.

Fifteen freshmen students from the university accepted the challenge to redesign the hotel’s employee cafeteria known as ‘Lumpini’.

The students’ creativity will be put to test as redesign entries must only use existing furniture and kitchen equipment with a sustainable approach.

The completed plan would also need to include two perspective visualisations, a mood chart with colour palette, the hotel has stipulated to the participants.

Dusit Thani Dubai is carrying out this exercise for a two-fold purpose: to improve the overall staff experience by providing a refreshed offering to the back of house whilst engaging with the local community and talent in doing so.

The hotel has set June 22, 2016 as the deadline for submissions, following which a panel of judges from the university and the hotel will be judging all submitted entries on June 23.

Serkan Gunay, assistant professor and chair in the School of Architecture & Interior Design at CUD said: “We are delighted that Dusit Thani approached Canadian University Dubai with this unique opportunity and we look forward to seeing the final results.”
