The implementation of the 2040 Tourism Strategy in Oman will bring about many benefits, such as providing more than 500,000 jobs by the end of 2040, said Maitha Al Mahrooqi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Tourism in a Gulf News report.
Al Mahrooqi added that the strategy will also increase the value of expected investments to about US $49.21 billion (19 billion Omani riyals) of which 12% will be by the public sector.
The contribution of tourism to the country’s GDP will range between 6% to 10%.
Al Mahrooqi added that the investments required to implement the Omani Tourism Strategy (2016-2040) would be about $18.968 billion, 88% of which will be borne by the private sector.
The strategy implementation has three stages, from 2016-2020, from 2021-2030 and from 2031-2040. Each stage will see the launch of different experiences and a number of hotel rooms.
By the end of all three stages in 2040, Oman will have added more than 50,000 hotel rooms, and create 535,574 direct and indirect jobs.
