Firefighters have put out a fire at The Address Hotel Dubai Mall, sister hotel of Emaar's Address Downtown Dubai property which suffered a major blaze ahead of New Year's Eve celebrations in the emirate, reports sister publication Arabian Business.

According to news agency WAM, civil defence teams doused a minor fire that erupted at the hotel in Dubai, with no injuries reported.

Department of Civil Defence director of operations Lt Col Ali Al Mutawa told WAM that the cause of the fire on the roof was a short circuit in one of the apartments on the 26th floor.

He praised the professionalism of the security and safety staff at the hotel who quickly evacuated the residents on the 26th floor.

The Media Office of the Government of Dubai confirmed through its Twitter account that the situation had been restored to normal, describing it as a limited incident.

The fire which engulfed its sister hotel, The Address Downtown Dubai on New Year's Eve was caused by an electrical short-circuit.

Emaar said in January that the fire should have "no material impact" on the company because the building and risk of fire were covered by its insurance.

The company also said it had hired a local contractor, Dubai-based DUTCO Group, to clear and restore the building.

Some experts have asked whether cladding - which is used widely on the towers which crowd the Dubai skyline - may in some cases make them more vulnerable to fire.
