Dubai Municipality has decided to drop the 10% municipality fee for Emiratis holding weddings at hotels in Dubai.

The decision will be effective from August 1, but the exemption will be capped at US $4,084 (AED15,000), reported Gulf News.

Speaking to Gulf News, Dubai Municipality corporate support services sector assistant director general Mohammad Julfar said the move was part of the municipality’s corporate social responsibility programme.

“This is aimed at alleviating the financial burden that they would incur for meeting the expenses for wedding banquets,” Julfar said.

According to Julfar, the municipality will draw up terms and regulations for the new initiative, which will involve applying for the exemption. He also said, that this will avoid either hotels or citizens having to follow up with the municipality for the exemption.
