New investment for Jordan tourism projects

Jordan is currently planning to invest in infrastructure and the development of tourism-based projects, having identified high-demand for adventure, medical and religious tourism.

A slowdown in Jordan’s tourism, due to unrest in the region, has allowed the government time to assess projects and marketing efforts, resulting in the identification of high-impact tourism projects for investment, according to local media.

Programmes selected for investment will also focus on agritourism, cultural and film tourism.

“Since 2011, the number of workers in the tourism sector has increased by 23% from around 40,000 to over 50,000 workers,” said secretary general of the ministry Issa Gammoh.

There are approximately 80 projects in the pipeline and much of the infrastructure work will employ Jordanian citizens, reports eTurboNews.
