Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates, in partnership with Mall of the Emirates, raised US$27,580 (AED101,300) for the Dubai Centre for Special Needs over the weekend at its annual event selling stollen cake - which this year measured 720 metres.

This is the 11th year that the hotel’s culinary team has baked a traditional stollen cake to mark the start of the festive season.

The stollen, a festive variety of the traditional German fruitcake, took a team of 15 chefs several weeks to prepare, and with the help of 40 staff members who volunteered their time.

The cake was displayed at Mall of the Emirates from 10am onwards on December 9 and sold out in 11 hours.

Michael Payne, general manager of Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates said: “The annual stollen charity cake sale has become somewhat of an institution for us at the hotel and it’s great to see our team come to together at the start of the festive season to spread holiday cheer in the community.

“We set a new record this year and I would like to thank everyone who came along and supported our charity cake sale this weekend.”

Dr. Mahshid Salehi, director of the Dubai Centre for Special Needs (DCSN), commented: “The Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates has been supporting us for many years. In addition to the annual stollen charity that we look forward to every year, the hotel has helped DCSN by offering our students work placements in the past, which are a very valuable and integral part of our curriculum.

"The charity cake sale is a highlight on our annual calendar and we would like to thank the entire team at Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates and Mall of the Emirates who have worked around the clock for weeks to make this event happen.”

Hussain Moosa, associate director for shopping malls, Majid Al Futtaim Properties, added: "We are delighted to have sold more than ever before with all proceeds gifted to Dubai Centre for Special Needs. This initiative is in line with Majid Al Futtaim’s vision of creating great moments for everyone, everyday,"
