We’ve successfully delivered numerous projects across the hospitality industry, many of which are in the mid-market sector, for which we’re the appointed art consultant across the brand. What process does Capsule Arts go through when completing a project?

We are full-service art consultants, in that we can work on projects right from the initial concept stage through to the delivery and installation of the art, offering complete project management. Our process begins with the consultation stage, where we work closely with the client to understand the aims for the project and establish the overall strategy for the art. From here we begin with the art selection and concept development, where we gradually finalise all the artworks and accessories that will go into the hotel, along with all the key details such as material specifications, locations, sizes and so on. Once the art package is finalised, we move into the production of the package through a process of commissioning and procurement, overseeing all stages of the manufacturing of pieces through to the framing.

What obstacles have you encountered in developing your business in this region?

We are often only brought on board in the final stages of a project to consider the artwork, by which point the timelines are extremely constrained, as are budgets. A longer timeline means we can be more cost effective as it allows us more time for careful planning and to manufacture things internationally if the local market is proving expensive. However, developing an art package is actually very specialist when it comes to the art production, framing, installation, and so on, and contractors rarely have the know-how to develop this to the high quality standard that a dedicated art consultant would.

Tell us about your mid-market plans for the coming years in this region?

We have several mid-market hotel projects already in the works which are due for completion in 2017. This includes the new Holiday Inn Doha, which will be opening in the Business Park. In addition, our work with the Rove Hotels brand is ongoing – Rove Downtown and City Centre have both now opened and there are another four hotel locations to open between now and 2018. The mid-market hotel sector really seems to be growing in the region at the moment, as trends are shifting away from the large resorts, so we are keen to work on more of these projects in the coming years.
