Hotelier Middle East Staff, January 31st, 2017

The Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah recently won the "Travel with Purpose Action Grant" and as a part of the initiative will plant a herb and vegetable garden to educate children and serve fresh produce to hotel guests.

It will also plant Ghaf trees to provide rescue animals a shaded sanctuary.

The Hilton program provides a platform for properties to strengthen the local communities where they operate. Waldorf Astoria RAK has started work on an educational garden to highlight their goal of becoming more sustainable. The garden will also produce some of the hotels raw herbs and vegetables used for mocktails as well as the Waldorf salad.

The culinary team has researched the viability of growing certain plants in this region with visits to successful local gardens with the aim to produce as much of its soil produce within the grounds. The engineering team has planned to build raised beds for the crops and the kids club team will encourage children to make and plant ‘seed bombs’.
