Eat The World DXB brings Singaporean food to Dubai

Sarakshi Rai, February 26th, 2017

Eat the World DXB took place in the shadow of the Burj Khalifa last weekend, surprising foodies at the street food festival with some interesting cuisines.

The event showcased 25 international street-food traders from the United Kingdom, the United States and Singapore.

"Dubai is not a place to stand still so we’re mixing the format up by bringing in the Americans for year two. Eat the World DXB 2017 will see the birthplace of the street food movement versus the movement’s current superpower – and that means more food and more choice for our guests,” said Food Market Events Middle East director Philip Lowery, who owns and operates Eat the World DXB.

Eat the World DXB 2017 included a sprinkling of the UAE’s food truck options, celebrity chefs, an artisanal food market and an array of food-themed experiences, including an outdoor cinema featuring food-themed films that were shown with a menu catered to each film.

The outdoor cinema was a popular feature at the event with people grabbing beanbags and cushions to watch chef-inspired movies like Julie and Julia, and Chef. There was free barbeque-flavoured popcorn during the movies.

Another stand-out feature at Eat the World was a Singapore section. The Singapore-tourism board went all out and even invited the TV show winner of Master Chef Asia Woo Wai Leong.

Leong said in an interview with Hotelier Middle East: "My favourite Singaporean dish to cook at home is an Oyster omelette. There's lots of fried eggs, lots of oil and rice flour to make the egg fluffly and crispy and lots of oysters. And chilli sauce."

"I think Singapore is definitely the most popular section at Eat The World, I mean just look at the crowd behind me. the five stalls are packed." he added.

Calling all wannabe chefs! Master Chef Asia winner @woowaileong is heading to #EatTheWorldDXB2017! He'll be putting on a series of demos to teach you the tips and tricks of the trade, so don't miss out!

"The singapore section has food that you wouldn't otherwise find in Dubai. It's a nice way to introduce a new cuisine to someone who has never been to that part of the world," said Miguel Estrada to Hotelier Middle East at Eat The World DXB.

Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum also made an appearance on the final day of Eat the World DXB at Burj Park.
