Passenger who spit on Emirates crew faces jail

Diane Fermin Roeder, March 12th, 2017

A British man has pleaded guilty to drunken behavior during a Dubai-Birmingham flight in November 2016 and a jail term prospect looms when it emerged that he had spat at the face of and racially abused a female Emirates flight attendant, Arabian Business reports.

The man had been drinking duty-free vodka and had gotten embroiled in a row with a fellow passenger, a woman who had been sitting in front of him, the report said. After he began hurling drinks over other passengers and verbally abusing a flight attendant and spitting at her, the man had to be restrained and Emirates crew were forced to put a mask over his mouth. According to the report, he was later arrested and during a court hearing recently, confessed to being drunk during the flight and ignoring the orders of the pilot.

His case comes as the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has announced recently that it is now working on new laws to deal with unruly passengers.
