Purchasing Power: Abdul Nazeer

Nikhil Pereira, March 26th, 2017

How long have you been in purchasing?

I began my career in hospitality purchasing in 2006 with Rotana itself since 2006. I first worked in a Dubai-based property and I was then transferred to Abu Dhabi.

What specific products are you on the lookout for?

I am responsible for the purchasing of several products, such as F&B items, operating supplies, furniture, fixtures and equipment (FF&E), housekeeping and engineering items.

What are some of the challenges you face in finance and purchasing today?

Challenges are present across all markets throughout the world and I believe in ploughing through it. One of Kuwait’s main challenges is its location; it is not comparable to the UAE, for example. We face lot of obstacles in the availability of items, logistics and shipping costs, delay in delivery and a lack of a wide pool of suppliers.

Tell us about one of your most successful deals?

In 2016 I successfully completed the entire renovation project for Al Maha Arjaan by Rotana, Abu Dhabi. I was also part of the pre-opening team at the Oryx Rotana, Doha.

What does a supplier have to do to impress you?

Deliver the goods as committed and on time, quick response, stock availability — and I prefer to have an official certificate for brand agency.
