Diane Fermin Roeder, April 3rd, 2017

Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman was recognised by Wyndham Hotel Group (WHG) with the EMEA President’s Award for CSR 2016 due to its various initiatives over the past year.

Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman has spearheaded various CSR campaigns in the UAE, including urban farming, in-house composting and zero landfill projects and more. According to a statement from the hotel, annual diverted waste from the landfill has reached 985,000 kg, with only 10% of the hotel’s waste, which was not recyclable and could not be converted into compost, going to a landfill. The hotel generates annual savings of AED 120,000 (US$ 32,686) from waste collection.

In addition, the hotel features a reverse osmosis plant, which helps to generate annual energy savings of approximately AED 200,000 (US$ 54,476). The hotel also converts its excess used cooking oil into biodiesel.

In terms of charity initiatives, the property has had a longstanding commitment to various charitable and environmental organisations including Al Ihsan, Action Care, Human Appeal International, and Emirates Environmental Group and is actively involved in Diversey’s ‘Soap for Hope’ campaign.

The WHG accolade was presented to the hotel’s general manager Iftikhar Hamdani by the group’s executives, including Geoff Balloti, president and CEO; Dan Ruff, president and managing director of WHG – EMEA, and Ignace Bauwens, regional vice-president of WHG Middle East and Africa, during the group’s annual EMEA Summit held in Brussels, Belgium.
