Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi acquires LEED certification

Diane Fermin Roeder, April 17th, 2017

Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas has announced that the property was awarded the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. LEED-certified buildings are resource efficient, using less water and energy and helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

“This award recognises key achievements in our corporate social responsibility programme and encourages us to raise the awareness and activity programme further with our employees, guests, visitors and partners to work together to nurture the natural unique coastline that we all enjoy and benefit from on Saadiyat Island," stated Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas general manager Federico Mantoani.

The hotel's team has been actively engaged in sustainable activities. Some of the key initiatives included sympathetic irrigation reducing landscape water consumption by 50% through the creation of dry Wadi beds and planting native and suited vegetation matching the climate environment. The team applied a fundamental refrigerant management system, to ensure the use of non-ozone depleting refrigerants. Creating a sand dune protection programme has added further protection from flooding and erosion of the beach, which directly aids the sustainable protection objectives of the Hawksbill sea turtles habitat on Saadiyat Beach. Saadiyat Beach is fringed by one of the last remaining coastal dune systems in Abu Dhabi.
