South Africa's Cape Town Convention Bureau has received a feather in its cap following a stringent international auditing process.
One of eight convention bureaus on five continents to be successfully assessed by Lloyds' Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) of its compliance with the BestCities Global Alliance service standards, the Cape Town Convention Bureau was officially certified in Victoria, Canada last month.
The press conference was held by the eight BestCities partners: Cape Town, Copenhagen, Dubai, Edinburgh, Melbourne, San Juan, Singapore and Vancouver, at the forty-seventh ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) Congress and Exhibition in Victoria from November 1 to 5, 2008.

Chief executive of Cape Town Routes Unlimited, Calvyn Gilfellan, said "being a partner of such a prestigious alliance really" would confirm its status as a "serious player in the global meetings, incentive travel, conference and exhibitions industry".
"We have adopted the BestCities service standards and implemented processes as part of our adherence to the BestCities Global Quality Policy and are proud to have reached this final stage," he added.
The audit recognised the fact that the Cape Town Convention Bureau is an established and progressive convention bureau by international standards.
Last year the eight BestCities partners agreed to be audited by an independent body and the Cape Town Convention Bureau was first to be audited.
The external auditing and certification process by LRQA will be repeated annually.
