African & Eastern, a regional importer and distributor of alcohol, has announced the launch of Dubai’s first dedicated online licensing platform.

It is estimated that less than 10% of residents who are required to hold a licence are currently doing so. Many expats fail to understand that an alcohol licence is required to not only buy, but to also store alcoholic beverages at home. African + Eastern has made efforts to educate residents about local laws and streamline the licensing process to make it as straightforward as possible.

African & Eastern general manager, group retail and corporate marketing Damon Tudor said: “We believe expats in Dubai fall into two categories; those who simply don’t know that they need a licence, and those who know, but prefer to run the risk of the potential consequences. Indeed, there are some expats who have been here for years and never bothered to protect themselves with an alcohol licence – a brave move when considering the potential consequences: heavy fines, loss of visa, deportation or imprisonment, depending on the offence.

“With this in mind, African & Eastern has developed the Alcohol Licence Dubai website, giving residents the first and only dedicated online licensing application and educational platform in Dubai, ensuring no question is left unanswered, information surrounding the legislation is communicated in an easily digestible manner, and obtaining or renewing a licence is easier and quicker”

The dedicated alcohol licensing website is an educational and application platform, providing detailed information on alcohol and licensing laws across Dubai, requirements surrounding the licensing process, as well as a portal for newcomers seeking advice.

In 2016, Dubai saw an increase of 15,000 new licences and over 30,000 licence renewals. With the introduction of the Alcohol Licence Dubai website making the process easier, the plan is to further increase this base and help residents to be licence aware.
