Dubai tops list with largest number of hotel rooms under construction

The Middle East and Africa (MEA) hospitality market is witnessing a surge with a total of 123,589 rooms under construction in the region, STR said a report.

Out of the total number of rooms in construction, the Middle East region accounts for about 95,089 rooms. This number is up 14.3% in year-over-year (y-o-y) comparisons, while the rest are in the African region, said STR's July 2017 Pipeline Report.

Dubai topped the list with the largest number of rooms under construction with 23,816 rooms in 18 hotels. Saudi also has a large pipeline with 23,816 rooms in 18 projects in Makkah and 6,712 rooms in 30 projects in Riyadh.
