The Dubai College of Tourism (DCT) organised its second Human Resources (HR) forum, which was attended by more than 100 human resources practitioners from Dubai’s hospitality sector.

The forum was designed to provide hotel recruitment and training specialists the opportunity to get a better understanding of the UAE’s labour laws and address various industry-related work challenges.

During the event held at The Address – Boulevard Hotel, speakers from both government and private sector entities addressed the gathering of human resources professionals, covering topics such as Emiratisation, current labour laws, and staff recruitment policies. Participants could raise questions during the  Q & A session that followed each presentation.

Speakers included Emaar Hospitality Group CEO Olivier R. Harnisch, Security Industry Regulatory Agency (SIRA), a unit of Dubai Police, licensing department head Major Majid AlZarouni and Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation assistant legal researcher Ahmed Mohamed Alhosany, who provided an update on labour laws and answered questions on overtime work, sharing of staff under a single visa and working on Fridays.

He announced that the Ministry has launched a WhatsApp Arabic-language WhatsApp hotline to cater to queries on labour rules and regulations and related topics. DCT business development sector Jeff Strachan gave an overview on DCT, its future direction and current programmes including  its interactive training course, ‘Dubai Way’ designed for government and private sector staff engaged in tourist-facing roles in various service sectors.
