The annual World Alba White Truffle Auction will be held in the UAE this November. The annual World Alba White Truffle Auction will be held in the UAE this November.

Italian Industry and Commerce (IICUAE), in partnership with the Italian Restaurant Consulting (IRC) and Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Conference Centre, will host the annual World Alba White Truffle Auction on November 12, 2017 in Dubai, which will be held concurrently with the Grinzane Castle in Alba, Italy (the historical location of the auction) and Hong Kong, linked by satellite to broadcast worldwide.

The auction is expected to raise €500,000 (US$587,842), and the proceeds will be donated to Al Jalila Foundation, a non-profit organisation established by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai.

“We are delighted to be welcoming this event to the region for the first time and it is an honour to be selected as the charity partner. The proceeds will be donated to medical research for the advancement of science.” said Al Jalila Foundation CEO Dr Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama.

The 2016 auction, which linked Philadelphia and Hong Kong with Alba last year, sold a twin truffle weighing a notable 1,170 grams to Chinese chef, Zhenxiang Dong for €100,500 (US$118,166), which heavily contributed to the €450,000 (US$529,112) total raised.

“We came up with the idea of bringing the World Truffle Auction to this city because we think Dubai would be the right place to break the world-record of the most expensive White Truffle sold in the history of the Truffle Auction,” said Italian Restaurant Consulting general manager Aira Piva.

The winning bidder will not only own the truffle but will also have it prepared and served by chefs including Reif Othman and Gary Rhodes

Five truffles will be sold at the Dubai auction with a final, signature truffle being sold from Alba to worldwide bidders with the potential of the GCC breaking previous records for the most expensive truffle sold.

The evening will conclude with a truffle-themed dinner hosted by Michelin Star Chef Giorgio Locatelli. The menu will be designed by Locatelli and Maurizio Lazzarin, head chef of Le Meridien Dubai Hotel and Conference Centre’s Italian restaurant, Casa Mia.
