A reception to celebrate the centenary anniversary of Vimto was held last month, attended by the soft drink inventor’s son and grandson.
John Nichols and his son Matthew were guests of Sheikh Adel Al-Aujan, chairman of regional suppliers Aujan Industries, at an event held in the Ritz-Carlton, Dubai.
Vimto, which was invented by John Noel Nichols in 1908, was introduced to the Middle East 80 years ago when Saudi Arabian family business Abdullah Aujan and Brothers began to important and distribute the drink across the Middle East.
The drink is now known in many parts of the region as having a close affiliation with the holy month of Ramadan.
Saudi firm Aujan Industries, who have a long history dating back 80 years with Vimto, celebrated the centenary by bringing together two generations from both Vimto manufactures Nichols plc and Aujan Industry, with Sheikh Adel Al-Aujan’s son Abdulla also in attendance.
Sheikh Adel Aujan said Vimto’s success was down to consistency.
“Over the years we must have tasted over 100 imitations, but none of them have enjoyed the consumer’s acceptance that Vimto has,” he explained.
