According to a monthly traffic report issued by operator Dubai Airports, Dubai International (DXB) welcomed 6.9 million passengers in October.
In the first 10 months this year, passenger numbers have risen by a 5.9% totalling to 73,433,846 compared to 69,366,094 last year.
During the review for October, for passengers outbound from Dubai, London was the top destination with 327,400 passengers followed by Mumbai at 219,512 passengers and New Delhi with 184,754 passengers.
Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said, “The third quarter has begun on a very positive note for DXB and with the hub on track to achieve our forecast of 89 million passengers for the year, our focus will be on continuing to maintain customer service quality and overall airport experience.”
Among the regions with the highest growth rate in October, South America topped the list with over 39% followed by Eastern Europe at 23.5% driven mostly by Russia where DXB provides connections to 13 countries. It was closely followed by Croatia and Asia at 20.3%.
In terms of country destination, India came out on top with 1 million plus passengers followed by UK at 525,896 passengers and Saudi Arabia with 407,262 passengers.
As for flight movements in October, there was a contraction of 5.9% with 33,257 flights recorded compared to 35,314 same month last year.
However, there was an uptick of 11.6% in the average number of passengers per flight in October — 213 compared to 191 recorded last October.
