A South Korean national has been arrested on the suspicion of murdering of his wife and child on Sunday at the five-star Ritz-Carlton hotel in Hong Kong.

According to reports, the police rushed to the hotel after receiving a report on Sunday morning that a man and a woman were fighting.

The police arrived to find the woman and a young boy dead at the scene.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) adds that the man was found sitting in a suite on the 109th floor in a semi-conscious state. A police source said: “His wife and son were found dead in the bedroom with slash wounds on their necks.” They also found a 13cm ceramic knife at the scene.

A spokesperson from the South Korean consulate in Hong Kong confirmed the three were nationals and from the same family. According to local news site Apple Daily, the couple, in their 40s, and their seven-year-old son checked into the five-star hotel a few days before.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the guests involved at this very difficult time … We are cooperating with police who are continuing the investigation at the hotel. The safety and security of our guests are always our top priority … We will not be commenting further [to respect the privacy of our guests],” a Ritz-Carlton spokeswoman said to SCMP.
