Oman received more than three million tourists in 2017 according to the Sultanate’s Ministry of Tourism, Times of Oman reports.

With total figures adding up to 3,300,000 tourists, the country has seen a 4.7% YoY growth in its international visitors, the report added.

The rise of tourists follow the push from the government to boost non-oil sectors as part of the Vision 2040 and the National Programme for enhancing economic diversification, Tanfeedh. The strategy, the report states, is dependent on developing dedicated tourism clusters in destinations such as Muscat, Musandam, Al Hajjar Mountains, Frankincense trail in Salalah in the southern region, and other tourist areas.

Last year in December, the Ministry of Tourism also launched a new promotional website — www.experienceoman.com as part of the Ministry’s initiatives to support the development of tourism in all sectors, especially through electronic platforms and digital marketing.

Hotels in Oman registered a 3% rise in occupancy levels while ADR increased by 4.5% in January 2018, compared to January 2017. Also, occupancy at five-star hotels in Oman went up by 10% in January this year, up from 63% last year, according a report by STR.
