10 dead in India after car crash causes hotel collapse

At least 10 people were killed and dozens feared trapped in the rubble after a four-story hotel collapsed in Indore, India on Saturday, according to reports.

More than 24 people may be trapped in the rubble, according to the Times of India. According to a report by Channel News Asia, the decades-old structure collapsed after a driver lost control of his car and struck a pillar that was holding up the structure. 

The State government has announced a compensation for the kin of the deceased, and the injured people. According to the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan a compensation of  INR 2 lakh (US $3,000) each, will be given to the families of the deceased and INR 50,000 ($767) each for those injured.

The government will also bear the expenses of the injured people, the official said. 

The hotel was said to have been over 60 years old and had around 15 rooms.

The entire incident was also captured on a CCTV camera, and the video of which has gone viral. The CCTV footage, which is of a few seconds, shows the building collapsing and some vehicles getting trapped under the rubble.
