RAK ramps up heritage sites

Ensuring the region’s cultural and heritage sites are developed as feasible tourism hotspots is a main priority for Ras al Khaimah (RAK), according to RAK Tourism manager Hilary Mc Cormack.
 
“In terms of actually promoting the cultural and heritage sites for RAK, we’re not that worried,” she said.

“Our priority has to be making sure things like proper parking, facilities and tourism infrastructures are in place because we know that there is so much interest and so when we are ready to facilitate tourists to these sights, they will definitely come.”

Mc Cormack revealed that RAK Tourism was working in close collaboration with the Museum and Antiquities Department on the initiative.

“It’s not something that we have an end date or a target for really,” she said. “It’s more of a continuous, ongoing project that we will work on to really make the most of this resource.”

Mc Cormack was reluctant to comment regarding reports about a planned ‘ski resort’ in the RAK mountains.

“It’s still far too early to get into details about what’s happening with this project,” she said.

“Our focus now is with other things so we will see how that develops in conjunction with our heritage initiatives in the future.”
