Amazon is now launching Alexa for Hospitality which is designed to bring the voice assistant technology to the hotel room. The tech giant has partnered with Marriott international to roll out the new programme in the hospitality sector.

Alexa for Hospitality will provide personalised and immersive in-room experiences to serve as the guests’ “virtual concierge” according to a statement from amazon. Guests can just ask Alexa for services such as playing music, ordering towels, controlling in-room temperature or lighting, finding local restaurants and attractions, calling, and even checking out.

Guests can simply ask Alexa with simple questions such as:

  • “Alexa, order room service”
  • "Alexa, send up two more towels"
  • “Alexa, call the front desk”
  • “Alexa, help me checkout”

Marriott, which was previously testing both Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa for in-room technology, will be rolling out the new Alexa for Hospitality experience at select properties in Marriott Hotels, Westin Hotels & Resorts, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, Aloft Hotels, and Autograph Collection Hotels starting this summer, according to Amazon.

Alexa for Hospitality will work on all Alexa devices such as Amazon Echo, Echo Plus and Echo Dot. Properties can also install custom skills using the Alexa Skills Kit to build custom commands for guests.

For now, Amazon says it will work with existing hotel technology such as DigiValet, Intelity, Nuvola, and Volara. Alexa for Hospitality will also soon be available for other hotel chains through invitation according to a TechCrunch report.
