QS Top Universities, the higher education data specialist recently released the list of top 50 hospitality and leisure management schools in the world.
Schools from United States, Switzerland, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom took various positions in the top 10 rankings. University of Nevada in the US took the first spot while four schools from Switzerland, namely Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne which ranked second, Glion Institute of Higher Education, Les Roches Global Hospitality Education and Swiss Hotel Management School were ranked in the top 10 schools.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University ranked third in the list, while University of Surrey and Bournemouth University took fourth and eighth place respectively. And Virginia Tech ranked 10th on the list.

However, this is by no means a comprehensive list, and we would recommend all prospective hoteliers to do their own thorough research into where they intend to study.
University of Nevada in the US took the first spot.
The Harrah Hotel College at the University of Nevada is situated close to the most renowned hospitality city in the world, the famous Las Vegas Strip.
In addition to the university’s general education requirements, students take classes specific to the industry, including an introduction to hospitality, human resources management, organisational behaviour, facilities management, hospitality law and a course in leadership, management and ethics.
Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, Switzerland is number two on the QS World University Ranking.
Established in 1893, Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) has produced 25,000 global industry executives and offers university-level studies to over 2100 talented and ambitious students from more than 90 countries. It offers university-level study programs for students targeting an international career in hospitality.
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong is number three on the list.
Situated on China’s South Coast in Hong Kong, amidst east and west cultures and skyscrapers, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is located in the Hung Hom area of Kowloon with a campus featuring state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities as well as amenities for students and staff.
University of Surrey, UK is at number four.
It offers International Hospitality and Tourism Management BSc and International Hospitality Management BSc (Hons) or MBus courses at its Guilford campus.
The programmes aim to educate the next generation of industry leaders and feature the latest insights on the major issues facing the industry, alongside practical learning that builds in-depth knowledge and skills.
And the Glion Institute of Higher Education is number five.
Established in 1962, Glion Institute of Higher Education is a leading hospitality management institution that offers degrees in hospitality, luxury and event management to an international student body across two campuses in Switzerland and one in London, UK. It ranks number five of the world’s top institutions for hospitality and leisure management and number one worldwide for employer reputation.
