Future sports leaders begin training programme

Louise Oakley, February 24th, 2009

The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Programme for Sports Leadership Development  (HBMPSLD) has moved into full swing this year, with the final 33 participants embarking on various modules of the course.

So far, they have completed the first session of their Personal Development Programme (PDP), attended The Blue Ocean Forum, at which keynote speaker Patrick Nally, co-founder of West Nally, gave a presentation on international sports marketing, and have been assigned with a group project aimed at achieving a solution to one of the challenges facing the sports sector in the UAE.

HBMPSLD executive chairman Adel Al Shared said that the PDP was an important step in creating sports leaders.

“Working in the sports field can be very challenging mainly because the general public usually has high expectations from sports leaders,” said Al Shared.

“We believe that equipping participants with fundamental personal development skills is an important step towards making them resilient and more competent in meeting the expectations of the sports-loving public.

“The PDP serves as an effective tool towards helping them become more responsible in their own personal development and ultimately in the decisions they will make as sports leaders,” he continued.

Of The Blue Ocean Forum, which will be held on a quarterly basis, Al Shared added: “The benefits of the Blue Ocean Forum are countless as it has been developed as one of the key components of the programme, that aims to qualify sport leaders through training programmes and workshops in line with the strategic plans and long-term aspirations of Dubai for the sports sector”.

HBMPSLD is an innovative leadership programme initiated by His Highness Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council in order to develop national leaders to move the sports industry forward in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015.
