Ethiopian Airlines passenger plane crashes en route to Kenya, no survivors

The Ethiopian Airlines flight, which was flying to Kenya, crashed shortly after taking off from Addis Ababa, killing all 149 passengers and crew on board.

 

According to the airline, flight no. ET 302/10 took off on Sunday at 8.38 am from the Bole International Airport but lost contact and crashed at 8.44 am local time.

The airline added that people of 33 different nationalities were on board the months-old Boeing 737 Max-8. The plane, according to reports, crashed around the town of Bishoftu, which is 60km south-east of Addis Ababa.

Ehtiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed expressed his "deepest condolences" on Twitter.     He said, “The Office of the PM, on behalf of the Government and people of Ethiopia, would like to express its deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya this morning”

It is not clear what caused the accident.
