According to a report by World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Egypt has rebounded to become the fastest growing destination in North Africa, second only to Ethiopia in the whole of Africa.

 

In January 2019, Hotelier had reported how the Egyptian tourism market is on the up (also see the video below), with the number of hotels in the North African country increasing.

In its online report, World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) said that the country’s efforts to improve security infrastructure helped drive up visits 16.5%  in 2018.

According to the WTTC, this has in turn allowed major operators to return to "popular" destinations such as Sharm el Sheikh.

The WTTC  also said that the size of the Egyptian travel economy in 2018 (USD $29.6 billion) is the healthiest it has been since 2010.

Reportedly, Egypt’s largest inbound markets in 2018 were Germany (13%), Russia (12%), the UK (7 per cent), Saudi Arabia (6%t) and Italy (3%).

The report went on to outline how that the WTTC’s 2018 research found travel and tourism in Egypt grew 16.5%  last year, significantly ahead of a global average of 3.9%.
