The newly re-opened Al Bustan Palace InterContinental is poised to sign a spa deal, which it claims will open up hotel to a brand new leisure source market.
The five-star property has called on Bangkok-based top-end resort and spa operator, Six Senses, to open a 3200m² spa at its property, with the agreement set to be signed and sealed by next week.
It is hoped that by opening this facility, the hotel will attract a new breed of guests, according to IHG area director of sales and marketing – Oman, Pauline Berge.
“This is where we can make that change in average age of guests,” she said revealing that at present, the property tended to attract the more mature crowd from Europe.
“The spa will attract younger people, particularly from Asia, because Six Senses is an Asian brand, but also from the US.”
Al Bustan Palace InterContinental officially reopened on January 1 following a multi-million dollar refurbishment that saw the property close for two years.
Berge said that in addition to leisure guests, the property, which is owned by the Omani Government, currently attracted high-level government and GCC business.
Details of the Al Bustan’s Six Senses spa are yet to be revealed, but Berge said it would open in 2010.
In the meantime, guests are offered massages at the property’s on-site fitness and leisure centre.
