Rotana receives Iraq offers

Matthew Warnock, May 14th, 2009

Rotana has received a wide range of offers to manage properties in several cities across Iraq, according to executive director Salim Al-Zeer.

Speaking to CNBC Arabiya, Al-Zeer said that, in three months time, Rotana's Iraqi operation would extend an invitation for tenders to bid on constructing a hotel in the Khadra' area of Baghdad, while confirming that the 250-room Rotana property in Arbil's Kurdistan region would be ready to start receiving guests in 12 months' time.

Al-Zeer maintained that there are currently many promising opportunities in Iraq, thanks to increased local demand and local tourism.

That, along with the availability of foreign investment, he stated, proves that Iraq is on the right economic path and provides potential for a hospitality group like Rotana.
